McPherson, Kan. – The McPherson College baseball team improved to 9-3 on the season, completing a four game series sweep of the Morningside College Mustangs on Monday.

The Bulldogs routed the Mustangs 16-1 in Monday's opener, then took game two by a score of 6-1. In game one, Charles Munns (Jr. Roseville, Calif.) was on the bump, and got the win with five and a third allowing the Mustangs, just one run on three hits with five strikeouts and three walks. Garrett Ham (Sr. Albuquerque, N.M.) pitched the final inning and two-thirds holding the Mustangs hitless and scoreless while fanning four and walking two.

Once they got things figured out, the Bulldog offense started hitting balls all over the park. They finished with a total of 15 hits, five of them going for extra bases. Kris Perez (Sr. Miramar, Fla.) and Kyle Lux (Sr. Lewes, Del.) led the way, each going 3 for 5. Perez ended up with a pair of singles, a double and three runs batted in, while Lux was a triple shy of the cycle with four RBI, and two runs scored.

The Bulldogs led 4-1 after four innings of play, but a nine run fifth inning broke the game wide open. They added three more in the sixth to finish with 16 runs in the game.

The offense wasn't quite as prolific as it was in game one, but the pitching was superb. Trevor Lott (Fr. Fresno, Calif.), was solid in the start, scattering five hits and giving up just one run in four innings of work. In the fifth inning, the Bulldogs went to Will Shaw (Sr. Yoncalla, Ore.) out of the pen. Shaw picked up his first save of the year, giving the Bulldogs three scoreless innings, and allowing just one hit while striking out four.

At the plate, Lux and Perez stayed hot in the finale. Perez was 2 for 2 with a pair of singles, a stolen base, and an RBI. Lux finished with a single and a double and one RBI.

Fourth year head coach Bryan Moses succinctly summed up the weekend by saying, "Very complete weekend for the DOGS.  Pitching stepped up for us to go along with timely hitting."

The Bulldogs will be back in action again at the end of the week, hosting the Dordt College Defenders in a four game series next Friday and Saturday. Double headers on both days are slated for 11:00 a.m. starts.
