McPHERSON, KAN. – The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) announced today that it is cancelling the spring 2020 sports season, effective immediately in response to the current COVID-19 situation.
In an effort to provide relief, no spring sport student-athlete will be charged a season of competition. Any spring sport student-athlete who was enrolled full-time in 2020 will be awarded two additional semester terms of attendance or the equivalent, according to a statement released by the NAIA
"We know this is extremely disappointing for our student-athletes and fans of McPherson College," Chandler Short, athletic director at McPherson College, said. "We appreciate the NAIA granting the extra year of athletic eligibility for our student-athletes whose seasons were cut short."
McPherson College athletics announced late last week that in accordance with recommendations made by the KCAC, it would suspend indefinitely all athletic-related practice, travel, and competitions. The cancellation of spring sports extends to all athletic facilities on campus and to anyone who uses the facilities.
McPherson College is continuing to address questions related to this unprecedented situation. The latest information regarding the college's response can be found at www.mcpherson.edu/covid.
