Game Recap: Softball |

Bulldogs Come From Behind to Win Twice on Saturday

Langston, Okla. – The McPherson College softball team picked up a pair of wins on the road Saturday in the Langston Classic hosted by Langston University.

The Bulldogs took on the Mid America Christian University Evangels in game one, picking up the win in come from behind fashion 8-7. Raegan Kleppe (Fr. McKinney, Texas) picked up the win in the circle in four innings of work. The Evangels scored seven runs on eight hits with Kleppe in the circle, but she had good command, striking out one and issuing zero walks. Shelby Bonn (Jr. Shawnee, Kan.) came one in the fifth and did a fantastic job containing the Evangels. She pitched three innings of shutout ball, allowing just one hit and recording four strikeouts.

The Bulldog offense had their bats going against the Evangels, plating eight runs on 13 hits, including four that went for extra bases. Leading the way for the Bulldogs were Jessica Jones (Sr. Brentwood, Calif.), Maile Deutsch (Jr. Palmer, Texas), Kylecia Taylor (Jr. Junction City, Kan.), and Taylor Perez (Jr. Tulsa, Okla.), who all had two hits in the game. The extra base hits included a double by Brandy Trengove (Jr. Wheat Ridge, Colo.), a triple by Perez, and home runs by Taylor and Jenna Christensen (Jr. Fortuna, Calif.).

In the afternoon match-up with the Langston Lions, a team the Bulldogs played and beat a week prior, the Mac ladies had to come from behind again to earn the win. This time they scored four runs in the final three innings while shutting out the Lions in that same span to win 9-5.

Brittany Baroni (R-Jr. Galt, Calif.) got the game two start in the circle for the Bulldogs, allowing four runs, only two of them earned, on four hits. She didn't factor into the decision, because she didn't pitch the required number of innings (4), in a seven inning game.  Instead the win went to Katy Wilson (Jr. Princeton, Texas) who pitched four innings allowing just one run on five hits.

The Bulldog offense continued to see the ball well, scoring nine more runs on 14 hits. Taylor and Heidi Fischer (Fr. Aledo Texas) led the Bulldog attack, both perfect at the dish with a 4 for 4 performance. Christensen and Perez also joined the multi-hit club, each recording a pair of hits. The Bulldogs had just two extra-base hits in game two, both of them doubles by Taylor.

The wins give the Bulldogs an 11-4 record overall. They will be back on the diamond on Wednesday, when they open up KCAC play, hosting the Tabor College Bluejays in a double header out at Bulldog Park. First pitch is slated for 2 p.m.
