Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Bulldogs Come Up Short at Tabor

Hillsboro, Kan. – It was just two nights ago that the McPherson College women's basketball team upset the Tabor College Bluejays at the Sport Center. The two teams squared off again on Wednesday night with Tabor picking up the win in what was another thrilling finish.

The Bulldogs led for the majority of the game. They were up by 7, 16-9 at the first break, and then by 5 at the halftime intermission 26-21. Tabor began to mount a comeback in quarter number three, but the Bulldogs maintained the lead 40-38.

In the fourth quarter, Brittany Roberts (Sr. Mansfield, Texas) fouled out with 5:48 remaining and the Bulldogs leading by one. The same thing happened in Monday's game but the Bulldogs were able to rally and hold off the Bluejays. This time however it was Tabor who rallied, took the lead at the 2:14 mark and hung on for the 59-55 win.

Key Statistic

The highlight of the night was Roberts reaching the 1500 point milestone of her career. She now has 1504 points and is closing in on the all-time Bulldog record.

By the Numbers

It was a low scoring affair, but the Bulldogs still managed to shot 41% from the floor, and 36% from beyond the arc.

Turnovers were costly as the Bulldogs coughed up the ball 31 times, which Tabor turned into 23 points.

The Bulldogs also lost the battle of the boards, 38 to 34.

Coach Quote

"I am unbelievably proud of our effort tonight with the injuries we have dealt with, our kids just keep stepping up and battling. I thought Tabor's game plan was to be physical with us and unfortunately the officials didn't call anything. It was really cool for Brittany to go over 1500 points! Maison, Victoria, Erika, KB, Jakia, Tatum, and Kristen played their tails off. Great game again by both teams and I'm sure coach Reed agrees best 2 out of 3."

 Next Up

With the loss, the Bulldogs are now 11-7 overall, and 8-7 in KCAC play. They will be back on the road this upcoming Saturday, when they travel to play the Southwestern College Moundbuilders in Winfield, Kansas. Tip-off at the fabled Stewart Field House is slated for 3:00 pm.
