Bulldogs Cap Regular Season with a Sweep of OKWU

McPherson, Kan. – The McPherson College volleyball team bounced back from Saturday's disappointing loss to Hastings with a dominant performance against the Oklahoma Wesleyan University Eagles.

There was a lot riding on Tuesday's match with the Eagles. With a win, the Bulldogs would secure the #2 seed, and an opening round bye, in the upcoming KCAC tournament. The MC ladies responded to the pressure by defeating the Eagles in straight sets, 25-19, 25-15, 25-19.

The Bulldogs jumped out to a hot start in the opening set, and rode that to a relatively easy win. In the second set, they spotted the Eagles the first four points, but runs of five points and six points, led by the serving of Katelyn Moore, got the Bulldogs back on track, and they routed the Eagles 25-15. Set three was never in doubt, though the Eagles put up more of a fight. The Bulldogs handled their business and completed the sweep, their 19th of the season.

Key Statistic

The Bulldogs attack was extremely efficient. As a group they hit .286 with 43 kills on 105 swings with 13 errors.

By the Numbers

Defensively, they held the Eagles to just 26 kills on 91 attempts, and finished with 41 digs, and three blocks.

It wasn't a spectacular serving night for the Bulldogs, but they still finished with four service aces.

Coach Quote

"Tonight we ended the regular season on a high. We took some tough losses over the course of this year and we learned from them. We fought every day to improve from them. It's not about how you start, it's about how you finish and Bulldog Volleyball is far from finished." - Cory Cahill

 Next Up

The Bulldogs wrap up the regular season with an overall record of 23 wins, and 8 losses. Their conference mark of 19-4 will land them the #2 seed in the KCAC tournament which starts this weekend.
