North Newton, Kan. – The McPherson College women's soccer team opened up the spring 2021 portion of their schedule this afternoon with a short road trip to North Newton, Kansas for a KCAC match-up with the Bethel College Threshers.
Bethel got on the scoreboard first, slotting a goal in the 32nd minute of action. It would turnout being the only goal scored in the first half. Nine minutes into the second frame, Bethel struck again to take a 2-0 lead. The Bulldogs got on the board in 71st minute when Emma Singleton, who missed all of the fall recovering from an injury, found the back of the net.
The Bulldogs sold out in the final minutes, pushing numbers forward, trying to score the equalizer. Bethel took advantage of this, and scored a third goal in the 88th minute, putting the nail in the coffin, securing the victory 3-1.
Christie Silber was in goal for the Bulldogs. She faced eight shots on goal, and came away with four saves.
Coach Olson commented on the match saying, "The result was not what we wanted but we were able to do some positive things. This last week we worked on building out of the back and I thought we were very clean playing it out of our defensive third. Bethel got a few counter attacks and finished their chances." He went on to point out a few individual performance adding, "It was good to see Emma get a goal as she hasn't played in over a year due to injury. Izzy got her first start on the season and she did well while in the game. I thought Ashley brought energy off the bench and helped create chances going forward. We look forward to our next game against Sterling College".
As Coach Olson alluded to, the Bulldogs' next game will be a non-conference match-up with the Sterling College Warriors. The two teams met in the fall on opening weekend with the Bulldogs winning on the road 2-1.
