Fulton, Mo. – The McPherson College tennis teams went on the road Saturday to square off against the William Woods University Owls. The WWU women are currently ranked 6th in the latest NAIA top 25 coaches poll and their men are in the #22 spot.
The Bulldog women put up a valiant fight against the Owls but in the end, the Owls showed why they are ranked as high as they are. The Bulldogs were upended by the Owls 7-0. The Bulldogs were competitive in all of the matches, but couldn't string enough points together to win any sets against the Owls.
Coach Allen liked what he saw from the ladies against WWU. He said, "That's probably the best team we will play all year. We had some chances in some sets, but we couldn't get over the hump. Erica played outstanding, and Kayla had a positive first set. Every player battled that's all you can ask for playing the 6th ranked team in the country."

For the men, they picked up a couple of points against the nationally ranked Owls, but in the end fell 5-2. The Bulldogs were swept in doubles and went down 1-0 in the match. In the singles portion of the dual, they picked up wins on the three line from Martin Millos and at #6 Trey Murphy. Millos won his match in three sets. He dropped the opening set 6-1, but rallied to win the second in a tiebreaker 7-6, then won the third set super breaker 11-9. Murphy took the easier route, winning in straight sets.
Coach Allen commented on the loss saying, "we got off to a little bit of a rocky start in double, but we got into the singles matches and got some positive results. Big congrats to Martin and Trey they never gave up and it showed in the results. Some of the other guys had chances but that was a quality opponent. Maybe see them down the road later in the year."
