McPherson, Kan. - The McPherson College Men's Soccer team stepped on the field focused on getting on a winning streak again. The Bulldogs had a great night by beating the eagles 5-1 in their fourth KCAC game of the season.
The McPherson team had a good match from the start. The game had the Bulldogs leading the actions at all moments. The Eagles tried to handle the pressure and keep the ball away from their defensive half, but it was impossible. The Bulldogs' pressure paid off at the 12th minute when they found the lead.
After a cross from (So.) Nipho Methula, the Eagles goalkeeper, could not hold the ball, and (Sr.)
Marcus Fernandes was there to head the ball to the net. The early goal boosted the Bulldogs' energy in the game. The team remained hungry in the match and found the second goal twelve minutes later. (So.)
Kaden Quint had the ball in the defense and played a long diagonal ball to (So.)
Antoine Detavernier. The winger controlled the ball on his left foot and scored on a nice finish.
When the Bulldogs looked set to carry the 2-0 lead to halftime, the referee awarded a penalty kick to the Eagles. The Eagles did not waste their chance and cut the Bulldogs lead in half. The Avila University tried to get back in the game for some minutes, but were forced to finish the first half with a man down after a member was shown a red card for a hard foul.
In the second half, the Bulldogs did a good job of recognizing which spaces to attack. With one player more on the field, the McPherson team was patient and came away with three more goals in the half. In the 54th minute, (Sr.)

Antoine Detavernier's lay off. After the goal, the Eagles kept the Bulldogs off the scoreboard for 31 minutes. However, the McPherson team found the net twice in the last five minutes of the match. At the 85th minute (So.) Lucas Willians assisted (Sr.)
Marcus Fernandes for his third goal of the night. Four minutes later, (Sr.)
Carlos Reyna scored the fifth goal on a pass from (So.) Sam Box.

Doug Quint expressed his thoughts after the game, "Tonight we got 90 solid minutes from our squad. As we have done in our last two games, we were able to control possession tonight, the difference being, we were much better transitioning into our attack and we finished when we had the opportunity." Quint added, "I am proud of Marcao, battling his way back onto the field from injury and scoring a hat trick tonight."
 With the win, the Bulldogs move to 6-3 overall and 3-1 in the KCAC. On Saturday, they will head to Nebraska to play against York College at 3:30 p.m.
