Kansas City, Mo. – The McPherson College men's and women's tennis teams opened up the 2022 Spring season on Friday, indoors at the Northland Racquet Club in Kansas City, Missouri against the William Woods Owls who are currently ranked #12 on the women's side, and #17 in the men's rankings.
The Bulldogs women had a solid outing against a very talented Owls squad. The Bulldogs ultimately lost the match 6-1, but they were very competitive in all of the matches. The Bulldogs only win in the doubles portion of the dual came at the no. 3 spot where Kendra Maples, and Grace Maxey won easily 6-0. In singles, Maxey again came through, and picked up an impressive win on the no. 3 line 6-4, 6-2.

For the Bulldog men their match with the Owls was a nail biter. The Owls swept the Bulldogs in the doubles section taking a 1-0 lead into the singles matches. The Owls were tougher in the top half of their line-up, and they beat the Bulldogs on lines 1 through 3. The Bulldogs had great results in the bottom half of the line-up where Trey Murphy, Daniel Marcano, and Zhiyuan Wei all picked up wins.

First year head coach, Keiran President summed up the Bulldogs' season opener by saying, "We had a great showing and a great start to our season. We went out and competed with against ranked teams. We have a lot to work on but we are more than excited to see what the rest of the season brings"
The Bulldogs will be back in action next weekend, playing three matches at home on Friday and Saturday. They will begin with John Brown University on Friday and then Texas A&M-Texarkana and Pratt Community College on Saturday all at the Bulldog Tennis Center.
