Ottawa, Kan. – The McPherson College softball team fell to 12-13 overall, and 4-2 in KCAC play, dropping both games of Saturday's double header on the road at #23 Ottawa University.
The Bulldogs lost both of Saturday's games by one run, and in both, the Braves won in their final at bat. In game one, the Bulldogs led 1-0 from the second inning until the bottom of the seventh when the Braves hit a two run homerun with no outs in the inning.
The one Bulldog run in the top of the second inning was the result of a triple by Mackenzie Egan to open the inning then an RBI single by Amanda Ambrosy. The Bulldogs had four total hits in the game, two of them came off the bat of Egan.
The Bulldogs got a great pitching performance from Jordyn Johnson. She went the distance, allowing two runs on seven hits with seven strikeouts and two walks.
In the second game, the Braves jumped out to an early one run lead in the bottom of the second inning, but the Bulldogs tied the game in the next half inning. Ambrosy walked and then was driven in on an RBI double by Sierra Cortez. Three innings later, the Bulldogs took the lead when Lacy Weaver scored on another RBI double, this time off the bat of Brandy Trengove.
The Bulldogs had the lead again heading into the bottom of the seventh, but the Braves rose to the challenge and scored two runs to walk it off for the second time. The Bulldogs had four hits in the second game as well, and half of them were tallied by Cortez.
Alexis Obregon got her first collegiate start in the circle for the Bulldogs in game two. She went six and two-thirds, giving up three runs on eight hits with one strikeout, and two walks.
"Super proud of the fight today," said Bulldog skipper Tony Segovia. "Going on the road against a ranked opponent is always challenging. We will continue to work and get better!"
The Bulldogs will be back in action on Tuesday in a midweek double header at Bulldog Park against the Kansas Wesleyan University Coyotes. First pitch is slated for 2:00 pm.
