Ottawa, Kan. – The McPherson College women's tennis team fell to 1-1 in KCAC play on Saturday, losing 4-3, on the road to the Ottawa University Braves.
The Braves, the defending KCAC champs, had just five healthy bodies available for Saturday's dual, spotting the Bulldogs a 1-0 lead with a default win at the no. 6 singles line. The Bulldogs also picked up an automatic win at no. 3 doubles, and needed just one other win to secure the doubles point. Unfortunately the Braves were on their game in doubles, and the Bulldogs lost two close matches at no. 1 and no. 2.
In singles, the Bulldogs needed to win three of the five matches played to go along with the free point at no. 6. The Braves were strong at the top and won on the no. 1 and 2 lines, but the Bulldogs picked up a win at no. 3 from Grace Maxey. They got another win from Kendra Maples at no. 5, but lost a heartbreaker on the no. 4 line. Vanessa Mundo went the distance, but lost 8-6 in a third set tie breaker.

Coach President commented on the loss saying, "Today was a tough day in the office for the women as we lost a tightly contested match against the Braves going the full distance in 3/5 singles matches! We definitely competed as we came back from a set down in a couple of those. As we discussed in our post match meeting this just fuels the fire for us to just go out and practice hard and compete better going forward."
With the loss, the Bulldogs are now 3-3 overall, and 1-1 in conference play. They will back on the court on Wednesday, hosting the Sterling College at the Bulldog Tennis Center. First serve is scheduled for 3:30 pm.
