McPherson, Kan. The McPherson College women's tennis team wrapped up the regular season on Sunday afternoon, falling to the Southwestern College Moundbuilders 6-1 at the Bulldog tennis center.
The Moundbuilders came into the finale having not lost a match in KCAC play while the Bulldogs had experienced just one loss in conference matches. On the line was a regular season KCAC championship. All the matches were extremely competitive, but the Builder women found a way to win more of the important points. In doubles, the Bulldogs picked up a win from the no. 2 team of Erica Paradise and Vanessa Mundo 6-3. Southwestern however were able to secure the doubles point winning the other two matches.
Trailing 1-0 heading into singles, the Bulldogs put their best foot forward, unfortunately the Builders were just a little sharper. Kayla Ortiz came close to getting the Bulldogs on the board at no. 5, but fell in a third set tiebreaker. Instead, Kendra Maples would get the honor of ruining the Builders' shutout attempt. She picked up a three set win at no. 6, going 14-12 in the deciding tiebreaker.

"Tough match for the women," said Bulldog head coach Keiran President. "The score doesn't determine who they are. Despite the scores our women competed! They were still able to capture the #2 seed going into conference tournament. After playing every one in conference, we know what to expect and we know what we have to do going forward. These girls are even more ramped up going into the tournament this weekend. I can't wait to see how they play in Topeka."
After the match, the Bulldogs honored four seniors, who played their final home match of their MC career. Erica Paradise, Polina Khoroshevskaya, Sydney Hicks, and Vanessa Mundo have left an indelible mark on the Bulldog program but they are not done yet. Next up is the KCAC conference tournament. The tournament begins on Thursday with the quarterfinal matches. Final standings have not been released, but as coach President indicated, the Bulldogs will likely be the #2 seed in the tournament and will get a bye into the semifinals, to be played Friday at the Kossover Tennis Center in Topeka, Kansas.
