McPHERSON, Kan. — Dy'Mond McElrath poured in 16 points and dished five assists Wednesday (Jan. 18) to lead the McPherson College Bulldogs to a 74-70 win over the Avila University Eagles inside the Sports Center. The win snaps a six-game losing streak.
Tied 65-65 with just under a minute to go, Tytiana Haamid gave the Bulldogs the lead with a putback while getting fouled. She knocked down the free throw to make it 68-65 with 32 seconds.
Kayla Navy trimmed the lead to one, but timely free throws by McElrath and Summer Kirkman pushed the lead again.
A three by Hannah Smith again cut into the lead, then a pair of free throws by McElrath iced the game.
Matisyn Moses finished with 14 points for the Bulldogs (8-11, 5-8 KCAC) while grabbing five rebounds. Kirkman added 13 points and three steals. McElrath pulled down a team-high seven boards.
Smith led the Eagles with a game-high 27 points, including seven threes.
The Bulldogs hit the road Saturday (Jan 21) to take on the Oklahoma Wesleyan University Eagles. Tipoff is slated for 3 p.m. in Bartlesville, Okla.
