LINDSBORG, Kan. — The wait is over for head coach Kent Freund as he picked up the first win of his coaching career, leading the McPherson College Bulldogs to a 5-2 victory Wednesday (Oct. 11) over the Bethany College Swedes in Lindsborg, Kan.
Anthony Pereira kept his spectacular season going with two more goals to run his season total to nine. The Bulldogs scored five goals in the final 17 minutes, including four goals in the last ten minutes.
The Swedes scored less than eight minutes into the contest, and that score would hold until the 74th minute when Pereira knotted the score and sparked the offensive barrage for the Bulldogs.
Lewis Self put the Bulldogs on top in the 81st minute assisted by Caden Hardgrave, then Pereira added to the lead less than a minute later with a strike from 30-yards out. Benedict Mbogga made it a 4-1 Bulldog lead in the 86th minute, then Dawson Sawyer put the icing on the cake with just 2:04 remaining in the game.
The Bulldogs outshot Bethany 26-12 with a 10-3 advantage on-goal. Pereira paced MC with five shots on goal. Camden Wiseman made one save.
MC returns to McPherson Stadium on Saturday (Oct. 14) to take on KCAC newcomer Evangel. Kickoff is scheduled for 2:30 p.m.
