McPHERSON, Kan. — The McPherson College Cross Country team competed at home in the Carol Swenson XC Invite Saturday (Oct. 7), in a loaded field that saw 17 schools competing, with nationally ranked programs in each race. It was the largest meet ever hosted at Bulldog Park.
The women started the day updating the school record books. Freshman Chloe Clevenger missed the school record by one second, running the second fastest time in school history, and broke her own freshman record, running 19:14 and placing 11th in the loaded field. Samantha Thompson continued her outstanding season, running the fifth fastest time in school history with a 19:26 and placing 14th. Amari Robb entered the record book with her time of 20:23, 13th best all time, and 29th overall in the meet. Brooke Krapes (21:49) placed 46th in a season-best, and Johanna Walker (23:52) placed 65th in her best collegiate time rounded out the scoring. The women finished fifth as a team in the race won by No. 24-ranked Tabor College in an incredibly competitive race.
The men followed with a seventh-place finish in a meet won by 24th-ranked Kansas Wesleyan. Freshman Azariah Gonzalez ran the 23rd best time ever for McPherson College in 26:39, placing 31st. Paul Choi had an outstanding day, knocking off 82 seconds off his best time, placing 44th with a time of 27:09. Brock Lauer (27:44) placed 59th. Reagan Thai (28:18) ran a personal record, placing 68th, and Isaac Hale (28:43) ran a season-best, placing 73rd, to round out the Bulldog scoring.
