PLAINVIEW, Texas — The McPherson College Bulldogs won game two of the doubleheader Friday (Feb. 17) to salvage the split in Plainview, Texas, against the Wayland Baptist University Pioneers.
The Pioneers scored a pair of runs in the second inning on a two-run double by Caleb Rozier.
But that deficit would be short-lived, as a three-run blast by Antonio Fernandez gave the Bulldogs the lead for good in the bottom of the third.
Caleb Feuerstake added one more in the fourth frame driving in Hayden Foster.
Ninness, Foster, and Feuerstake each finished the nightcap with two hits, and a run scored.
In the opener, the Bulldogs grabbed an early 2-0 lead behind solo homers by Gage Ninness and Andres Artola in the third and fourth innings, respectively.
The Pioneers quickly tied the ballgame in the bottom of the fourth with a two-run home run by Jake Green.
Carson Parham finished it off with a solo homer in the bottom of the eighth inning.
Ninness and Artola each finished 2-for-3 at the plate with a home run and an RBI in game one. Blake Maddock got the call on the bump and threw five innings with three strikeouts.
The Bulldogs open their home schedule on Monday (Feb. 20) to take on Park University at Bulldog Park. The first pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
