No. 20 Southwestern Takes Down Men's Basketball Bulldogs

McPHERSON, Kan. — The McPherson College Bulldogs went toe-to-toe with the No. 20-ranked Southwestern College Moundbuilders Wednesday night (Feb. 8) but fell 102-90 inside the Sport Center.

Antonio Watson had a career night for the Bulldogs scoring 27 points on 10-for-16 shooting from the field, including 4-for-9 from beyond the arc.

The Bulldogs got off to a hot start, mounting a 28-16 advantage thanks to a pair of threes by Watson.

But the Moundbuilders showed why they were nationally ranked, trimming the lead to two points on the heels of a 15-5 run with 6:44 left in the half.

The Moundbuilders briefly took the lead, but a layup by Christian Aguillard at the end of the half gave the Bulldogs a 47-46 edge at the break.

The second half started back and forth, but an 8-0 spurt by the Moundbuilders gave them the lead for good.

Owen Braxmeyer finished with 20 points, three assists, and three steals for the Bulldogs. Yaniel Vidal added 15 points and three assists, while Aguillard scored 11 points. Charles Snyder rounded out the double-digit scorers with 10 points and grabbed eight rebounds.

Cevin Clark led the Moundbuilders with 22 points, while Jarvis Jennings added 19 points, and Andrew O'Brien finished with 15 points.

The Bulldogs shot 50 percent from the field (34-for-68) but were outrebounded 35-22.

McPherson is back in action on Wednesday (Feb. 15) for a KCAC matchup against a red-hot Bethany College team, who has won eight straight games.
