Bulldogs Hang On to Complete Season Sweep of Sterling

McPHERSON, Kan. — The McPherson College Bulldogs held on late Tuesday (Apr. 18) to pick up the 10-8 victory and complete the season sweep of the Sterling College Warriors at Bulldog Park.

The Warriors used the wind to their advantage in the opening inning, grabbing a 2-0 lead in the top of the first, but Antonio Fernandez responded with his team-high 11th home run in the bottom of the frame to cut the lead to 2-1.

Hunter Robinson leveled the score in the third with a sacrifice fly, bringing Caleb Feuerstake in, but Albert Bisono-Rodriguez gave the Warriors their lead back with a solo homer to left field.

Again the Bulldogs tied the score with another sacrifice fly, this time from Hayden Foster, but the Warriors had an answer once again in the next half-inning.

The bats got hot for the Bulldogs in the sixth, plating four runs on as many hits. Dawson Walters led off with a triple, then scored on an RBI single up the middle by Feuerstake. Fernandez kept the inning going with a double through the left side, bringing in a pair of runs, then Robinson drove in Fernandez with an RBI single to left-center field.

Two more runs by the Bulldogs in the seventh gave them a 9-4 advantage, then an RBI double by Andres Artola in the eighth made it a 10-4 lead.

The Warriors made things interesting in the top of the ninth, quickly loading the bases before scoring four runs, but Broc Selstrom came on in relief and wrapped it up with a fly out to left field.

Drake Miller was dealing in the early going, striking out five batters in the first two innings. Miller finished with seven punchouts in 4.2 innings of work while allowing just two runs.

Fernandez finished 4-for-5 at the plate with three RBIs. Feuerstake, Robinson, Artola, and Kevinn Castillo each finished with two hits.

The Bulldogs hit the road this weekend for a huge KCAC showdown at Oklahoma Wesleyan. The teams will play a single game on Friday (Apr. 21) starting at 2 p.m
