OTTAWA, Kan. — The Ottawa University Braves used a three-run fourth inning Friday (Apr. 7) to push past the (20) McPherson College Bulldogs 4-3 in Ottawa, Kan.
Antonio Fernandez gave the Bulldogs the early with his team-best ninth home run of the season.
But the Braves answered with the three-run inning to take a lead they would never relinquish.
An infield single by Hayden Foster in the sixth pulled the Bulldogs within 3-2, but the Braves answered again in the next half-inning to push it back to a two-run advantage.
The Bulldogs threatened in the eighth thanks to an RBI single by Hunter Robinson. They loaded the bases but were unable to scratch across the tying run.
Foster and Caleb Feuerstake each finished with two hits for the Bulldogs (24-10, 17-3 KCAC). Blake Maddock got the start on the mound and struck out five batters in six innings of work.
The teams will finish the three-game series on Saturday (Apr. 8) with a doubleheader starting at noon.
