McPherson, Kan. — The McPherson College women's tennis team swept the Tabor College Bluejays on Thursday before taking care of business in a 6-1 win over Friends in Wichita, Kan. on Saturday.
MATCH ONE – MC 7, TC 0
The Bulldogs won the doubles point, following a quick 6-0 win by Hofer/Ortiz and a 6-3 win by Sanchez/Nashiku.
MC took a 2-0 lead heading into the singles competition, due to the Bluejays only having five players. Taimi Nashiku made it a 3-0 Bulldog lead with a 6-0, 6-1 win, then Zeynep Barut clinched the match with a 6-3, 6-0 win over Fiorella Villa.
Vanessa Hofer overpowered Binita Sitoula, winning 6-32, 6-0, then Ava Bolin finished the sweep with a quick 6-0, 6-0 win over Vitia Chacon.
MATCH TWO – MC 6, FRU 1
The Bulldogs made quick work of the doubles point after Hofer and Kayla Ortiz swept Hanna Wood and Molly Bender. Maxey/Garcia followed with a 6-2 win over Krivek/Cavalcanti, then Sanchez and Nashiku knocked off Avakian/Williams 6-1.
Alexa Garcia and Grace Maxey quickly put the Bulldogs on top 3-0, picking up a pair of wins, 6-1, 6-0 and 6-0, 6-2, respectively. Maddie Dobson made it a 4-0 lead with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Bender. Barut knocked off Mirella Cavalcanti 6-2, 6-3 in the #2 position.
Silva Avakian put the Falcons on the board with a three-set win over Camila Sanchez, but Nashiku finished off the match with a three-set win over Jazzmyn Williams.
The Bulldogs return to the Bulldog Tennis Center on Thursday (Apr. 4) to take on Bethel College.
