SALINA, Kan. — The McPherson College Bulldogs swept the Bethel College Threshers 4-0 Friday morning (Apr. 26) at the Genesis Health Club in Salina, Kan., to advance to their third straight KCAC Championship match.
Grace Maxey and Alexa Garcia got the early morning started with a 6-3 win on court two, over Nalea Payton and Patty Huerta, but the Threshers evened the battle for the doubles point with a 6-4 win by Grace Dawes and Charis Yager.
But on court one, Camila Sanchez and Taimi Nashiku took down the No. 42-ranked doubles pairing in the NAIA, 7-6 (2) to give the Bulldogs the crucial doubles point.
MC took a 2-0 lead thanks to a quick 6-1, 6-1 win by Zeynep Barut over Dawes, then Maxey matched with a 6-1, 6-1 win of her own over Halle Krehbiel.
Looking for just one more point to clinch the victory, Sanchez finished off Daniela Casique 6-4, 6-3 to send the Bulldogs to the finals.
Taimi Nashiku won the first set of her singles match 7-6 and was on top 5-1 in set two when the Bulldogs clinched.
MC will square off against the winner between second-seeded Ottawa University and third-seeded Sterling College Saturday (Apr. 27) at 9:00 a.m., weather permitting.
