McPHERSON, Kan. — The McPherson College Bulldogs took care of business Thursday (Apr. 4) at the Bulldog Tennis Center, sweeping the Bethel College Threshers. With the win the Bulldogs improved to 6-0 in KCAC play and are 10-3 overall this season.
The Bulldogs swept the doubles point, thanks to a pair of 6-3 wins by Maxey/Garcia and Hofer/Ortiz and a 6-2 drubbing by Sanchez/Nashiku in the top doubles spot.
Grace Maxey put the Bulldogs on top 2-0 with a quick 6-2, 6-2 win over Halle Krehbiel, then Zeynep Barut matched with an identical win over Grace Dawes. Camila Sanchez clinched the Bulldogs win after dropping the first set 6-3, going on to win the next two sets 7-6 (1), 6-4.
But the Bulldogs weren't done yet, looking for their second sweep in the last three matches and their fifth of the season. Vanessa Hofer knocked off Nalea Payton 6-3, 6-4, then Taimi Nashiku finished off Jenna Mahoney 3-6, 6-0, 6-1. Alexa Garcia completed the sweep with a quick 6-0, 6-2 win over Patricia Huerta in the #6 position.
The Bulldogs are back in action for a pair of matches this weekend at the Bulldog Tennis Center. MC will take on Evangel University on Saturday before a showdown with No. 16-ranked William Woods on Sunday.
