MOBILE, Ala. — The McPherson College Men's tennis squad fell 4-1 to the No. 15-seeded Lindsey Wilson College Blue Raiders Tuesday (May 14) at the Mobile Tennis Center in Mobile, Ala.
"Can't talk enough about this team and all they have accomplished this year and represented McPherson College," head coach Keiran President said. "It's is not the result we wanted, but at the end of the day there is only one champion."
The Blue Raiders claimed the doubles point behind wins on courts one and two. Michael Beltran and Martin Millos dropped their doubles match to the No. 15-ranked pairing in the country in Jan Silhavy and Miguel Perez 6-2, then Oscar Brouwer and Daniel Marcano fell 6-3 to Aldo Randazzo and Lucas Margues.
In the singles competition, Arthur Nardy and Marcano fell behind early in their matches, with Nardy dropping the first set 6-1, and Marcano falling 6-2. But Beltran and Celien Botlan breathed life into the Bulldogs, winning their respective sets 6-2 and 6-4.
Millos and Marcus Nardy each fell in their first sets 7-5, then Beltran gave the Bulldogs their lone point of the match, and evened the score at 1-1 with a 6-2 win in the second set, knocking off the No. 28-ranked player in the NAIA.
But from there, matching 6-2 second sets on courts four and six gave Lindsey Wilson a 3-1 lead, with Millos and Marcano falling.
Arthur Nardy evened the match on court three, with a 7-5 win in the second set, then Botlan headed to a third set, falling 6-3 in the second.
The Blue Raiders clinched the victory with a win on court two, after Jaume Barcelo took down Marcus Nardy 6-2 in the second set.
"I want to extend many thanks to all our supporters who checked in and attended matches throughout the season, our administrators for everything they did for us and most important, our student athletes!" President said. "They did most of the work to get here and we as a program wouldn't be at this event if it wasn't for their hard work."
MC wraps up the 2024 season with a 16-5 record and a perfect 11-0 mark in KCAC play in head coach Keiran President's third season at the helm.
