How it Happened
McPherson set the tone early, with
Linci Leyva testing the keeper just a minute into the match. The Bulldogs kept the pressure high, firing seven shots in the opening half while disallowing for any shots from the Swedes. The breakthrough came in the 35
th minute when
Ayden Jones launched a long-range effort over the Bethany goalkeeper and into the net. Bethany's Lexis Stegeman received the only card of the match in the 36
th minute, after a hard challenge on
Courtney Ward.
The Bulldogs wasted little time after the break, doubling their lead in the 52
nd minute. Off a Swedes goal kick,
Taylor Duvall intercepted the ball and slipped a pass between two defenders to
Courtney Wickham, who turned and lofted a strike over the goalie from the left side of the box.
Alyssa Hill made it 3-0 in the 65
th minute, heading home a corner kick from
Gracie Speltz.
McPherson continued to pour on the goals in the late stages of the match. In the 70
th minute, Jones notched her second goal of the night; on an errand pass towards the Bethany keeper, Jones took possession, took a touch around the keeper, and finished easily on a short-range shot for the goal. The Bulldogs capped the dominant performance with two quick goals in the closing minutes – Mackenzy Angel chipped the keeper in the 86
th minute off a long ball from
Shelby Pronk, before Pronk herself finished a Speltz corner just a minute later to seal the 6-0 victory.
