SIOUX CITY, Neb. – The McPherson College women's tennis team lost a 4-3 decision to Morningside before blanking Mount Marty 7-0 over the weekend.
The Bulldogs are now 3-2 on the season.
Against Morningside, the number three doubles tandem of
Bella Ellerbee and
Pia Hinricher recorded a 7-6, 7-5 win. However, the top two teams dropped their respective matches. In singles action,
Alexandria Garcia cruised to a win at the number three spot. She won the first set 6-4 before posting a 6-0 win in the second frame, pulling the team within 3-1.
Morningside sealed the win with a victory at the number four spot, but the Bulldogs' Hinricher and Ellerbee turned in solid efforts at the number five and number six positions, respectively. Hinricher notched a 6-3, 7-5 win at No. 5 while Ellerbee accounted for a 6-3, 7-5 victory at number six for the team's three points.
In the win over Mount Marty, Garcia and
Vanessa Hofer combined for a 6-1 victory at the number one doubles spot. Lauren Van Drunen and
Taimi Nashiku posted a 6-0 win at the number two position. The Bulldogs continued their dominance in singles play. Hofer notched a 6-1 win at the number one spot while Garcia won by the same score at number two singles. Nashiku accounted for a 6-0 win at number three Van Drunen registered a 6-2 victory at the number four spot while
Ava Bolin fought off her foe for a 7-5 victory at the number five position.
The Bulldogs return to action Friday, Feb. 28, when they host Colorado State University Pueblo at 9 a.m.
