MCPHERSON, Kan.- The McPherson College women's tennis team opened KCAC play with an emphatic 7-0 victory over the University of Saint Mary.
The Bulldogs are now 7-2 on the season, including a 1-0 mark in league action. The win marked the programs fifth consecutive victory this season.
Top-seeded
Alexandria Garcia and
Vanessa Hofer combined for a 6-4 win in doubles action. The tandem of
Taimi Nashiku and
Laureen Van Drunen notched a win by the same score at the number two position. Third-seeded
Bella Ellerbee and
Pia Hinricher posted a 6-3 victory, securing the sweep in doubles action.
Garcia needed three sets to pull off the win at number one. After falling by a 6-2 count in the opening frame, she bounced back for a 6-2, 6-1 victory.
Hofer recorded a 6-0, 6-2 victory at the number two spot for head coach
Craig Holman's squad. Nashiku garnered a 6-2, 6-1 win at the number three slot.
Playing at the No. 4 position, Van Drunen registered a 6-1, 6-0 win. Hinricher needed a bit more time to finish off her opponent. She picked up a 6-2, 7-5 victory at number five. Ellerbee completed the win with a 6-0, 6-2 win at the number six position.
The Bulldogs return to action Saturday when they play at the University of Missouri – St. Louis at 11 a.m.
