YORK, Neb. — The power of the lineup was on full display for the Bulldogs on Monday (Mar. 17) as they secured a road conference victory over the York University Panthers in the third and final game of the series.
It took no time for the Bulldogs to step up and take control of the contest as
Dawson Walters brought home
Jace Essig with an RBI single and was followed up by
Marcus Patton launching a ball out of the park for a three run homerun to take a 4-0 lead before York was able to even to swing the bats in the first inning. The offense for MC continued to roll in the top half of the second inning with
Braden Schiffner bringing home
Ky'rell Taylor off an RBI double.
Essig cashed in with Schiffner in scoring position as he ripped a ball into right center for an RBI triple and Walters quickly brought him home to add another run for MC. Schiffner came through again in the top half of the third inning with a two run RBI single to make it a 9-0 lead for the Bulldogs.
York was able to push across a run in the bottom half of the third off an RBI single, but Walters quickly pushed the lead for MC back up to nine with a solo homerun in the top of the fourth to make it 10-1. The Panthers began to put things together in the bottom half of the fourth inning as back to back solo homeruns trimmed the lead to seven runs and a fielder's choice in the bottom of the fifth cut it down to a six run lead.
The Bulldogs scored a trio of runs in the seventh to erase the work York had done, but the Panthers answered with three homeruns split between the bottom half of the seventh and eighth innings scored five runs, and made it a 13-9 game.
Colin Evers bagged an RBI single in the top of the ninth inning to make it 14-9 and the Panthers were unable to complete a rally as MC secured a 14-10 victory over York.
The Bulldogs return home tomorrow, March 18 as they play a single game against the Ottawa University Braves. First pitch is set for 1:00 p.m.
