MCPHERSON, Kan. – The McPherson College men's tennis team wrapped up a daunting four-match road swing Saturday afternoon.
The Bulldogs are now 7-6 after going 1-3 on the road trip.
Head coach
Craig Holman's team opened with a 4-3 win at Campbellsville. MC picked up the doubles point after winning at No. 1 and No. 3.
Celien Botlan and
Oscar Brouwer teamed up for a 6-4 win at the No. 1 slot. Although
Arthur Nardy and
Jayson Wasserfuhr fell 7-5 at No. 2 doubles, the team of
Simon Delgadillo and
Texas Ranger Schmidt posted a 6-1 victory, securing the point for the visitors.
Tied at 1-1Brouwer snagged a 6-0, 6-4 win at the No. 2 slot in singles action. Tied at 2-2, Wasserfuhr needed an extra set before besting his foe 2-6, 7-6, 7-5 at the No. 4 spot. The match came down to the No. 6 match.
Balazs Temesvari notched a 6-0, 6-0 win there, allowing the Bulldogs to take the 4-3 victory.
At no. 16 University of the Cumberlands, Botlan and Brouwer earned a 6-2 victory at No. 1 doubles, but the Bulldogs lost at the No. 2 and No. 3 spots. The closest singles match occurred at No. 3. There, Botlan lost a 6-4, 6-4 match in the 7-0 loss.
Falling to No. 6 Lindsey Wilson, Botland and Brouwer lost a 6-3 contest at No. 1 doubles. Nardy and Delgadillo also fell by the same score at the No. 2 slot. Temesvari pushed his foe to extra points, but lost a 6-0, 7-5 decision at the No. 6 singles position. Brouwer, playing at No. 2, lost a hard fought 4-6, 7-5, 1-6 match at the No. 2 position.
At No. 17 William Woods, the Bulldogs lost a 4-3 match. After losing the doubles point, Nardy picked up a 3-6, 6-1, 7-5 win at the No. 1 singles spot. Botlan garnered a 7-5, 6-2 win at the No. 3 slot. Temesvari tallied a hard fought 6-4, 2-6, 10-7 win at the No. 6 position.
The Bulldogs return to action Monday when they host Kansas Wesleyan at 3 p.m., in a KCAC match.
