OTTAWA, Kan. – The McPherson College men's tennis team dropped a 5-2 decision at Ottawa Saturday afternoon.
Head coach
Craig Holman's team falls to 9-7 overall, including 3-1 in KCAC action. The loss snaps a 50-match KCAC regular-season winning streak for the Bulldogs.
The visitors took a 1-0 lead after securing two of the three doubles matches. Top-seeded
Celien Botlan and
Oscar Brouwer garnered a 6-4 win at the number one spot.
Simon Delgadillo and
Arthur Nardy registered a 6-3 victory at the number two slot.
Three of the Bulldogs' singles matches went three sets – and MC dropped all three matches. Top-seeded Nardy fell by a 5-7, 7-5, 6-7 (2-7) score. Brouwer, playing at the number two position, fell by a score of 1-6, 6-3, 1-6. Botlan snagged a 6-3, 6-2 victory at the number three spot.
Jayson Waserfuhr fell by a 6-0, 6-1 count at number four singles while Delgadillo lost a 6-3, 6-2 match at number five.
Balazs Temesvari lost a hard-fought three-set match at the number six spot. After winning the first set 7-5, he lost the next two by scores of 6-1 and 10-7.
The Bulldogs return to action Monday, March 31, when they play at Tabor College at 3 p.m.
