McPHERSON, Kan. — The Bulldogs were unable to cool down the red hot bats of the Eagles as they dropped game one of a three game series on Friday (Apr. 11), 11-6.
Jace Essig continued his incredible run of play over the past few games as on the very first pitch thrown in the bottom half of the first inning, he launched a solo homerun to quickly give the Bulldogs a 1-0 lead. The quick strike by the Bulldogs was answered in a big way by the Eagles as they scored eight unanswered runs across the second and third innings of play, including a five run second inning thanks to two long homeruns as OKWU took an 8-1 lead.
Essig once again came through for MC as he pushed across another run via an RBI single to cut into the lead, but the Eagles kept the MC offense quiet for the majority of the middle innings.
Dawson Walters finally got the Bulldogs back into the game with a long three run homerun in the sixth inning to make it an 8-5 game, but the Eagles responded in the seventh with a three run homer of their own in the seventh to push the lead back out to six runs.
Essig once again launched a solo homerun in the bottom half of the seventh to make it an 11-6 game, but that was all MC could muster up as OKWU shut down MC and took the victory.
The Bulldogs and the Eagles will clash again tomorrow for a doubleheader. First pitch of game one is set for 12:00 p.m.
