Women's Tennis Grabs Trio of Wins

MCPHERSON, Kan. – The McPherson College women's tennis team picked up three wins over the last six days.

The Bulldogs are now 16-7 on the season, including 10-0 in KCAC action.

The team cruised to a 7-0 blanking of Avila last Thursday before besting Bethel 5-2 on Saturday. The squad shut down Southwestern College by a 5-0 count Tuesday afternoon.

Top-seeded Bella Ellerbee and Vanessa Hofer notched a 6-2 victory in the top doubles spot. Pia Hinricher and Laureen Van Drunen accounted for a 6-0 victory as the No. 2 seed. The tandem of Ava Bolin and Maddie Dobson posted a 6-1 win at the No. 3 spot.

In singles action, Hofer registered a 6-0, 6-2 victory at the No. 1 position while Van Drunen recorded a 6-1, 6-1 win at the No. 2 slot.

Hinricher cruised to a 6-2, 6-1 victory at No. 3. Ellerbee wasted no time in dispatching her foe by a 6-0, 6-1 victory at the No. 4 spot.

Bolin rolled to a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 5 while Dobson garnered a 6-1, 6-1 victory at the No. 6 spot.

At Bethel, Garcia and Hofer tallied a 6-2 win at the top doubles spot. Ellerbee and Taimi Nashiku won by a 6-0 count at the No. 2 position. Third-seeded Hinricher and Van Drunen posted an identical victory.

Hofer and Nashiku posted identical 6-1, 6-1 victories at the No. 2 and No. 3 slots, respectively. Hinricher needed three sets to win at No. 5. She posted scores of 1-6, 6-4, 6-0. Ellerbee also won in three sets at No. 6, taking down her foe 4-6, 6-2, 10-6.

At Southwestern College, Garcia and Hofer snagged a 6-0 win at No. 1 doubles. Ellerbee and Van Drunen also posted a 6-0 victory at the No. 2 spot.

In singles action, Hofer cruised to a 6-1, 6-1 win at the top spot. Van Drunen totaled a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 2 while Ellerbee and Bolin garnered 6-0, 6-0 wins at No. 3 and No. 4 singles, respectively.    

The Bulldogs return to action Thursday, Apr. 17, when they play at Friends University at 3 p.m.
