Box Score 2 McPHERSON, Kan. – The McPherson College women's tennis team picked up a pair of wins to close out the regular season, blanking Friends University 7-0 before besting Oklahoma Wesleyan 6-1.
The Bulldogs are now 18-7 overall, including a perfect 12-0 ledger in KCAC action, securing the league regular-season title.
In doubles action against Friends,
Bella Ellerbee and
Taimi Nashiku combined for a 6-1 victory at the No. 2 spot.
Pia Hinricher and
Laureen Van Drunen won via forfeit for the early 1-0 lead.
In singles competition,
Alexandria Garcia won a tightly-contested match at the top spot by scores of 7-6, 7-6.
Vanessa Hofer, playing at No. 2, won a 6-2, 6-2 decision.
Taimi Nashiku registered a 6-1, 6-0 victory at the No. 3 spot while Van Drunen tallied a 6-1, 6-0 win at No.4.
Hinricher and Ellerbee, playing at No. 5 and No. 6, respectively, won via forfeit.
In doubles action on Friday against Oklahoma Wesleyan on Senior Day, all three teams secured victories. Garcia and Hofer needed the tiebreaker, but still ended up securing the 7-6 (8-6) victory. Ellerbee and Nashiku garnered a 6-3 victory at the No. 2 spot. Hinricher and Van Drunen accounted for a 6-1 win at the No. 3 position.
In singles competition, Garcia tallied a 7-6, 6-4 win at the No. 1 position. Hofer notched a 6-3, 5-7, 7-6 victory at No. 2.
Nashiku overcame an early deficit for a 5-7, 6-3, 6-2 victory at the No. 3 spot. Hinricher and Ellerbee totaled wins at No. 5 and No. 6, respectively. Hinricher posted a 6-3, 6-1 victory while Ellerbee cruised to a 6-0, 6-1 win.
The Bulldogs return to action Apr. 24-26 at the KCAC Tournament, which will be held in Lindsborg, Kan.
