WICHITA, Kan. — The McPherson College Bulldogs fell 13-8 in the second half of what was a scheduled doubleheader with the Friends University Falcons in Wichita, Kan. Game one was played on Saturday with the Falcons winning 11-5.
The Falcons struck first in the after a leadoff single by Elena Montoya and an RBI single by Priscilla Mora.
MC responded with three in the top of the second to take an early lead. Alexandrea Garcia got things started with a one-out walk, then a double by Megan Wright put a pair of Bulldogs in scoring position. Landri Lopez drove in the runs with a single to right field.
The Bulldogs weren't done there, as Karisa Hernandez brought Lopez around to score with another RBI single to right.
That lead was short-lived however as the Falcons added four in the next half-inning, including a three-run shot by Mora, to make it a 5-3 Friends lead.
MC cut into the lead in the fourth thanks to another RBI single by Hernandez, but the Friends offense exploded for five in the bottom of the fifth to break the game wide open.
The Bulldogs had a chance in the sixth, starting with a leadoff blast to left field by Emily Peterson, then used small ball to make it a 10-7 deficit after a two-RBI single by Alivia Lange. MC added one more in the sixth when Wright reached on an error by the Falcon pitcher, allowing Kaitlyn Sarsfield to score.
Unfortunately, the Falcons had an answer this time, tacking on three more in the bottom of the sixth.
The Bulldogs are back in action tomorrow (Apr. 22) for their final home doubleheader of the season. MC will take on Oklahoma Wesleyan at Bulldog Park starting at 2:00 p.m.
