Baseball Falls To Sterling In Series Opener

STERLING, Kan. — The Bulldogs have kicked off their final series of the regular season, but came out on the wrong end of the score in game one of it as they fell to the Sterling College Warriors on Friday (Apr. 25), 7-6.

Marcus Patton put the Bulldogs on the board first right out of the gate as he brought in Jace Essig via a fielder's choice in the top half of the first inning. Things came unraveled for MC as the Warriors scored six unanswered runs between the second and third innings of play as Sterling utilized the small ball approach as none of their runs were scored via extra base hits.

Much like they have all season though, the Bulldogs weren't about to go down without putting up a fight. Braden Schiffner got MC back on the scoreboard in the top half of the fifth with an RBI single to bring home Dalton Thomas. Sterling responded with a critical run in the bottom hlf of the fifth to make it a 7-2 game after five innings.

The Bulldogs put up four unanswered runs between the seventh and ninth innings thanks to a Peyton Starr walk with the bases loaded, a fielder's choice by Luke Nordean and a big error allowed Colin Evers to score. Dawson Walters secured a big RBI single in the ninth cut the lead to one, but the comeback was snuffed out as the Warriors held on for the win.

The Bulldogs conclude the regular season with a doubleheader against Sterling on Saturday, April 26 as they finish off the 2025 regular season. First pitch of game one is set for 12:00 p.m.
