Box Score LINDSBORG, Kan. – The McPherson College women's tennis team registered a 4-0 victory over No. 4 Ottawa Friday afternoon.
The Bulldogs are now 20-7 on the season, and have earned an automatic bid to the NAIA National Tournament.
MC picked up the point in doubles action as
Alexandria Garcia and
Vanessa Hofer combined for a 6-1 victory at the No. 1 position. Third-seeded
Pia Hinricher and
Laureen Van Drunen combined for a walkover win, securing the one-point advantage. The duo of
Bella Ellerbee and
Taimi Nashiku was ahead 5-2, but the match was not completed.
In singles action, Hinricher and Ellerbee notched walkover wins at No. 5 and No. 6, respectively. That propelled the Bulldogs to a solid 3-0 advantage.
Nashiku was the next Bulldog to pick up the win, dispatching her foe by a score of 6-0, 6-1 at the No. 3 position. The win secured the team's spot in the KCAC Championship.
When the match stopped, Garcia was up 6-1, 1-1 as the No. 1 seed while Van Drunen was ahead 6-3, 2-1 at the No. 4 slot. After dropping the first set 6-2, Hofer held a 3-2 advantage at No. 2.
The Bulldogs will square off No. 2 Bethel or No. 3 Oklahoma Wesleyan tomorrow in the KCAC Championship starting at 2 p.m.
