McPHERSON, Kan. — The McPherson College Bulldogs held on late in game one Tuesday (Apr. 8) to secure a doubleheader split with the Kansas Wesleyan University Coyotes at Bulldog Park.
GAME ONE – McPherson 3, Kansas Wesleyan 2
After a scoreless first inning, the Bulldogs notched the first run of the game when Sidney Larrew drew a leadoff walk before going first to third on a single by Alivia Lange. Larrew would score thanks to a sacrifice fly by Alexandrea Garcia.
MC added a pair in the third frame, when four straight singles, starting with Savannah Robles and capped off by a two-run single by Larrew, pushed their lead to 3-0.
Samantha Hollingsworth was excellent in the circle early on, holding the Coyotes off the scoreboard and to just four hits over the first six innings. However, Kansas Wesleyan had thoughts of a comeback late when Deja Rubio got the seventh started with a leadoff homer to pull within 3-1.
A pair of walks followed by a double by Trenity Miller trimmed the lead once again to 3-2, but Madison Jarvis forced a pair of groundouts, including one off her own shins, to put the Bulldogs into the win column.
GAME TWO – Kansas Wesleyan 9, McPherson 3
The Coyotes lit up the scoreboard early in the night cap, striking for one in the first before exploding for seven more in the second.
Down to their last strike before suffering a run-rule loss in the bottom of the fifth, the Bulldogs broke through thanks to back-to-back doubles by Lange and Garcia, the former driving in Karisa Hernandez and Robles.
However, that would be all the Bulldogs could get as they were held to just one hit over the final two frames.
