Offense Powers Baseball To Run Rule Victory Over Central Christian

McPHERSON, Kan. — The bats were red hot for the Bulldogs on Wednesday (Apr. 9) as they bagged a 15-5 run rule victory over the Central Christian College Tigers to secure a victory for McPherson College in the battle for the McPherson Collegiate Cup.

Marcus Patton put the Bulldogs on the board first with an RBI single that brought home the speedster Jace Essig to give MC a 1-0 lead in the first inning, but Colt Sussesx-Uphold was not satisfied with just a one run lead. After three straight batters were given a free base by the Central pitching staff, Sussex-Uphold blasted a grand slam to blow the gates wide open just two innings into the contest.

The Tigers were able to push across a pair of runs in their half of the third inning to make it a 5-2 game, but from that burst on it was all Bulldogs. Between the third and fourth innings of play MC pushed across eight unanswered runs, highlight by a long Colin Evers three run homerun as the Bulldogs entered the seventh inning with a 13-2 lead.

Central pushed across a pair in the seventh to keep hope alive, but Dalton Thomas made sure that the contest didn't go a full nine innings as he ripped an RBI single that scored a pair of runs in the eighth inning thanks to a fielding error to secure the victory.

With the victory, the Bulldogs and Tigers have now each won three matchups this year in the first edition of the McPherson Collegiate Cup. The Bulldogs have victories in men's soccer, volleyball, and baseball while the Tigers secured a victory in the women's soccer matchup and swept the pair of basketball games. The final matchup between the two schools comes on April 22 as they face off on the Softball field.

Bulldog baseball returns to KCAC play on Friday, April 11 as they kick off a three game series with a single game against Oklahoma Wesleyan, who comes in ranked No. 11 in the latest NAIA polls. First pitch is set for 2:00 p.m.
