McPHERSON, Kan. — Director of Athletics Josh Daume announced Monday (May 12) that Toni Snyder has been named Director of Spirit for McPherson College Athletics.
"We couldn't be prouder to bring back a Bulldog alum to lead our Spirit Program," Daume said. "Toni has a proven track record of building successful NAIA programs. The rosters he has been able to grow at his previous stops, along with their ability to compete at a high level, is exactly what we were looking for when we began this search."
Snyder is an alumnus of McPherson College and comes back to campus following a two-year stint at William Woods University in Fulton, Missouri. He was responsible for beginning the WWU cheer team from a club squad. While coaching the Owls, Snyder led the cheer program to second place in the American Midwest Conference (AMC), while maintaining a Top 20 ranking in the NAIA for three straight weeks. Snyder also coached the first four NAIA All-Americans in program history, three NAIA Scholar Athletes, and was named the 2024 AMC Coach of the year. In his second season as the headman for the Owls, Snyder led them to a third-place finish at the AMC Championship.
"I would first like to express my gratitude and immense pride to Director of Athletics, Josh Daume, and President Michael Schneider for this extraordinary opportunity to return to my alma mater," Snyder said. "This institution has been a cornerstone of support and guidance throughout my life, and I am honored to serve and support our current and future Bulldogs as they pursue our mission statement at McPherson."
Prior to arriving in Fulton, Mo., Snyder spent two seasons as the head cheer coach at fellow KCAC member Kansas Wesleyan University, where he broke the school's record scores on multiple occasions as well as improved the Coyotes sideline presence, uniformity, and team GPA. In his first season at KWU, Snyder led the Coyotes to a fifth-place finish at the KCAC Championship and coached three all-conference athletes. Snyder set the highest score in KWU history with a 78.10 in his second season, while coaching a pair of All-KCAC honorees.
"I have no doubt that Toni's pride in being a McPherson College alum will resonate with both our current and future student-athletes," Daume continued. "It was apparent from our first conversation that he has a vision and a plan for our Spirit Programs. In addition to competing for KCAC Championships, we will have a tremendous presence on the sidelines of our games, at campus events, and in the community."
