JOPLIN, Mo. — The road to a conference championship for the Bulldogs has gotten a bit tougher as they dropped their second round matchup against the Kansas Wesleyan Coyotes on Friday (May 2), 15-4.
The first pair of innings saw the two teams going blow for blow, with the Bulldogs getting up on the Coyotes a pair of times. In the first, Kansas Wesleyan pushed across the first run of the game with an RBI single but
Peyton Starr quickly erased that in the bottom half with a two run homerun to give MC a 2-1 lead. In the second inning, the Coyotes tied the game back up off a wild pitch but this time
Colin Evers gave MC back the lead with a solo homerun to make it a 3-2 Bulldog lead after two innings.
Things unraveled for MC after that as the Coyotes scored 13 unanswered runs from the third inning to the sixth inning. The fifth inning served as the biggest blow as KWU scored eight of their runs during its top half, a pair of them coming off a long two run homerun that gave the Coyotes all the momentum.
Marcus Burton got the Bulldogs back on the board in the seventh with a solo homerun, but MC was unable to cut the Kansas Wesleyan lead down enough as KWU secured a run rule win to advance.
Despite the loss, the Bulldogs aren't done yet. They will now face off against Friends tomorrow, May 3 at 9:00 a.m. with their season on the line. If the Bulldogs take down the Falcons, they will need to defeat the Coyotes twice to advance to the KCAC championship game.
