Bulldogs Open 2025 Campaign with Strong Tournament Showing

McPherson, Kan. – McPherson started the 2025 season in Sioux City, Iowa for the NAIA Sioux City Tournament. The #12 nationally ranked Bulldogs finished the weekend with a 3-1 record, highlighted by a pair of sweeps.  
 

Friday August 22nd 

Score: McPherson 3, Dakota Wesleyan 0 

The Bulldogs opened the Sioux City Tournament with a dominant sweep over Dakota Wesleyan University. Georgia Perret led the attack with ten kills, while Ellie Okikawa and Brooke McHale made an impact at the service line with an ace apiece. At the net, Katie Warden anchored the front row, registering seven kills and three blocks. McPherson controlled the match from start to finish, winning each set by at least eight points. 

Score: McPherson 3, Morningside 2 

McPherson came out strong, taking a commanding two-set lead to start their match against Morningside University.  The Mustangs responded in the third, edging out a 25-21 win which cut the Bulldogs lead in half. Carrying that momentum into the fourth set, Morningside flipped the switch on the Bulldogs with a decisive win tying the match at two. But in the fifth, Katie Warden and Brooke McHale provided the spark McPherson needed, combining for nine of the Bulldogs' final 15 points to secure the victory.   
 

Saturday August 23rd 

Score: McPherson 0, #7 Northwestern 3 

To open day two of the Sioux City Tournament, the Bulldogs took on No. 7 Northwestern College. Katie Warden (10 kills) and Brooke McHale (9 kills) powered the offense, while Celestina Retumban led the way on defense with 18 digs. Despite the effort, McPherson came up just short, falling 21-25, 21-25, 22-25 for their first loss of the season. 

Score: McPherson 3, Rocky Mountain College 0 

Closing out the tournament, McPherson squared off with Rocky Mountain College. Led by Celestina Retumban's 20 digs, the Bulldogs held the Battlin' Bears to just five points in set one. Rocky Mountain battled back in the second, but would ultimately fall in three straight sets to the Bulldogs.  
 

Up Next 
McPherson will have their first home action of the season on Tuesday, August 26th as they take on Baker University. First serve is set for 7:00pm at Holman Fieldhouse.
