McPherson, Kan – For their Senior Day weekend, the Bulldogs would take on the Southwestern College Moundbuilders on Saturday in front of a filled up Bulldog Park crowd. The wonderful smell of Lazy Bacon BBQ filled the air, and the Bulldogs were rolling on the field, making it out to be a great afternoon.
The Basics
Location: Bulldog Park
Records: MC 14-25 (6-18 KCAC), SC 8-32 (2-22 KCAC)
Game One: MC 6, SC 1
Samantha Hollingsworth started out for McPherson in the circle and had an excellent showing; she would allow just one run to score off of five hits while striking out seven batters in 23 batters faced. This dominant performance would earn her the fourth win of her season.
Despite giving up the opening run in the top of the first on an RBI single, from Eliana Ortiz, McPherson went on to score six unanswered runs throughout this ballgame. Their scoreline was highlighted with a three spot in the bottom of the sixth. Already with a 3-1 lead,
Mackenzie Birch batted in
Justice Large on a full count pitch; Birch would make her way around the bases and eventually score on a passed ball to give McPherson a 5-1 advantage.
The final run of the ballgame was scored on
Savannah Robles' RBI single through the left side that brought home
Andrea Solis for the 6-1 lead. With the Moundbuilders unable to find efficiency late in the game, the Bulldogs earned the opening 6-1 win of the doubleheader.
Game Two: MC 11, SC 1
After the gallery had their barbeque sandwiches and pulled pork nachos, it was time for Game Two at Bulldog Park.
McPherson's first runs of the game came from
Mackenzie Birch's two RBI single that brought in
Sidney Larrew and
Sophia Walters for the 2-0 lead.
Layla Towner continued the momentum in the bottom of the third inning after doubling out to left center and driving in
Victoria Thornton for the 3-0 lead.
Hailey Shubin lit up the field after rounding the bases on a hit out to center field that went between the center fielder's legs. She slid into third after
Layla Towner made her way home to extend McPherson's lead to 4-0. Larrew homered in the final two runs of the third inning to bring the Bulldogs to a 6-0 advantage.
McPherson would go on to score five more runs through the fourth inning, giving themselves an 11-0 lead heading into the fifth with a chance to leave the ballpark early. After giving up just one run, the Bulldogs ran ruled the Moundbuilders 11-1 to wrap up their Senior Day at Bulldog Park.
