Women's Events
Cara Shultz had a phenomenal week in Wichita, placing first in two separate events throughout the championships. In the Shot Put, she would throw a distance of 12.75m and finish first in the event. Shultz later laid down the hammer (by throwing it) and threw a personal-best distance of 45.92m, good enough for first place. She finished second in the Discus with a throw of 41.36m.
Right behind her was
Kara Alexander in the Shot Put with a distance of 12.29m, placing second in the event.
Blake Posey broke a school record on Friday in the 100m Hurdles with a personal-best time of 14.31, finishing fourth in the event.
Johanna Walker displayed her season-long improvement in the 5k with a time of 20:30.36; this time had beat her personal-best by over a minute, shaving off 68 seconds from her previous best.
Nina Zimmermann finished the 400m event with a personal best time of 1:06.09.
Men's Events
On the men's side, three school records were broken by
Lamar Gordon,
Brian Fackert, and newcomer Marcellus Linton. In the Shot Put, Gordon threw an "A" National Standard 16.89m, putting him atop the field for the KCAC Championships. He would also finish first in the Discus event with a distance of 52.58m, another national standard qualifier. He finished second in the Hammer event with a throw of 54.97m.
Fackert ran in the 1500m event where he would finish in first place with a time of 1:55.86; this would break the program record, but was just .9 seconds off the national standard. He'll have a chance to cut the time down by less than a second at the Last Chance Qualifier meet this weekend.
Dylan Tingler also competed in the 1500m where he would run a personal-best time of 4:37.82.
In the 200m, senior Brysen Kerby broke his personal record with a time of 24.37.
Linton's 100m time of 10.34 was good enough to place first in the KCAC Championships. Not only was the time a "B" National Standard, but it broke a program record in addition to it being a personal-best time for Linton.
That wasn't all for Linton on the day; he would go on to finish first in the 200m dash with a personal-best time of 20.83. This, too, would shatter a program record.
Linton, Glezen, Brown, and Fackert teamed up for the 4x400m event and placed seventh with a time of 3:27.36. In the 4x100m,
Matthew Williams,
Austin Glezen, Kerby, and Linton finished sixth, finishing at 42.65.
