2010 Volleyball Signings

Bulldog volleyball adds Hiebert

McPherson, Kan. - McPherson College has announced the recent signing of Kory Hiebert of Goessel, Kan., and Hesston College to a volleyball letter of intent for the 2010-2011 school year.

“Kory is an athlete that truly loves the game of volleyball and has a great work ethic to go along with it,” said McPherson College head coach Susan Barton. “She will bring a great deal of maturity and athleticism to our young squad. Kory is a very good attacker and blocker, which will help us tremendously. I really look forward to working with Kory.”

 

In two seasons at Hesston, Hiebert tallied 246 blocks and 653 kills, while earning District Player of the Week Honors during the 2007 season. As a prep athlete at Goessel High School, she earned multiple honors including, Kansas Volleyball Association First Team, Hutch News 1A First Team, Hutch News All-Area and HOA First Team. Hiebert recorded 919 kills and 690 blocks at Goessel High School.

 

Kory is the daughter of Michael and Lucinda Hiebert of Goessel, Kan. She plans to major in music while at McPherson College.


Walker commits to McPherson Volleyball

McPherson, Kan. - McPherson College has announced the recent signing of Lindsy Walker of Moundridge, Kan., and Moundridge High School to a volleyball letter of intent for the 2010-2011 school year.

“We are very excited to have a player like Lindsy join the McPherson volleyball program,” said McPherson College head coach Susan Barton. “Lindsy has always been a player that has embraced her roll and does it very well, no matter what that roll is. She is a very unselfish player who does her job day in and day out even though she knows the glory usually goes to someone else. She is mentally tough and that will really help our young team.”

In her senior prep season at Moundridge High School, Walker recorded 121 kills on 364 attempts for a 0.21 kill percentage in 101 games. To go along with her kills, Walker tallied 175 blocks, including 70 solo blocks on the year.

Lindsy is the daughter of Liane Cope of Moundridge, Kan., and Ryan Walker of McPherson, Kan. She plans to major in graphic design while at McPherson College


Bulldog volleyball and softball adds Fischer

McPherson, Kan. - McPherson College has announced the recent signing of Kristen Fischer of Nashville, Kan., and Cunningham High School to a volleyball and softball letter of intent for the 2010-2011 school year.

“Kristen will be a great asset to our volleyball program next season,” said McPherson College head volleyball coach Susan Barton. “Kristen has great strength at the outside hitter position and passes very well. Her never say quit attitude will blend very nicely into our program. I look for her to step up next season and make an impact on our volleyball team.”

The 5'7” Fischer was a three-time honorable mention all league and all area team member (2007-2009), while lettering four seasons in volleyball at Cunningham High School. During her senior prep season, Fisher tallied 116 kills, 32 aces, 12 blocks and 237 assists under the direction of coach Heather Albers.

Off the volleyball court, Fischer lettered four years in basketball and three times in both track and cheerleading.

In the classroom, she has been on the National Honor Society for three years, while placing on the honor roll every year since 2007.

Kristen is the daughter of John and Jane Fischer of Nashville, Kan. She plans to major in mathematics while at McPherson College


Volleyball and Track add Girard

McPherson, Kan. - McPherson College has announced the recent signing of Emily Girard of Osborne, Kan., and Osborne High School to a volleyball and track and field letter of intent for the 2010-2011 school year.

“Emily is a very athletic young lady,” said McPherson head volleyball coach Susan Barton. “We are excited to have her be a part of the McPherson College volleyball program. Her athleticism will really help us at the setter position. I am looking forward to helping her grow and mature as an athlete.”

The 5-9 Girard was a two time second team All-League volleyball player under the direction of Linda French at Osborne High School. Girard concluded her prep career with 292 kills, 705 digs, 646 assists, 220 blocks, 73 aces and a serve receive percentage of 84.0 percent.

Off the court, Girard lettered three years in basketball and track and field. Girard is a three time state medalist in the 100-meter and 300-meter hurdles. Her personal records in the two events are 16.18 (100m) and 47.11 (300m), respectively.

In the classroom, Emily is a member of the National Honor Society and has been on the Osborne High School honor roll three times.

Emily is the daughter of John and Angela Girard of Osborne, Kan. She plans to double major in business and elementary education at McPherson College.

 


McPherson volleyball adds Harvey

 

McPherson, Kan. - McPherson College has announced the recent signing of Karina Harvey of Walton, Kan. and Goessel High School to a volleyball letter of intent for the 2010-2011 school year.

“Karina brings a lot of hustle to our program to go along with great passing ability,” said McPherson College head coach Susan Barton. “Karina is the type of player that will do anything it takes to not allow a ball to hit the floor. I look for Karina to be fighting for the libero position next season. Karina is very competitive and aggressive, exactly what we want in a libero.”

The 5'3' Harvey was a first team All-Area and HOA All-League volleyball selection after earning second team and honorable mention honors as a junior. Following her senior season under coach Crysta Guhr, Karina was named to the KVA All-State second team. In 2008, she received honorable mention recognition.

Harvey completed her final prep season with 973 digs, 1.97 serve receive percentage, including a 2.03 serve receive percentage during her senior season.

Off the volleyball court, Harvey lettered three years in track and field, and basketball. Both in 2008 and 2009 she qualified for the Kansas State High School track meet in the 4x400 meter relay, 4x800 meter relay and the 800 meters. In 2009, Karina was a member of the Goessel High School record-breaking 4x800 meter relay team.

In the classroom, Harvey was twice named to the KVA All-Academic honorable mention team.

Karina is the daughter of Mickey and Anne Harvey of Walton, Kan. She plans to major in sociology while at McPherson College.


Frey inks with Bulldog volleyball

McPherson, Kan. - McPherson College has announced the recent signing of Aspen Frey of Newton, Kan., and Goessel High School to a volleyball letter of intent for the 2010-2011 school year.

“I am excited to have Aspen as a part of our volleyball program,” said McPherson head coach Susan Barton. “Aspen is a great ball striker and can put the ball anywhere she wants. She is a smart player with great leaping ability to go along with her power on the outside. Aspen will help our team get better each day as she has a desire to do her best. She has a tremendous work ethic.

A well-rounded athlete, Frey earned varsity letters four times in volleyball, basketball, and track and field. Under head coach Crysta Guhr, she tallied 615 kills, 578 digs, 117 aces, 93 blocks and a serve percentage of .968. She was twice named Honorable Mention All-league in volleyball and recently named to the 2009 2A Honorable Mention team by the Hutchinson News.

The 5-7, Frey qualified for the Kansas State Track Meet three times, while twice receiving the Goessel High School women's basketball teams “Glass Eater” award.

Aspen strives for excellence not only on the court, but in the classroom as well. She is a four-time member of the Goessel High School Deans Honor Roll and was twice named to the KVA Academic team.

Aspen is the daughter of Monty and Linda Frey of Newton, Kan. She plans to major in elementary education at McPherson College


Schloo signs with Bulldog volleyball

McPherson, Kan. - McPherson College has announced the recent signing of Brelynn Schloo of Salina, Kan., and Highland Community College to a volleyball letter of intent for teh 2010-2011 school year.

“Brelynn is the first junior college player our program has brought in since I have been head coach, and I am very excited to have her on campus this coming fall,” said McPherson College head coach Susan Barton. “Brelynn is the type of young person that is very coachable and will do whatever is asked of her. She will also be a very good example to our younger setters and will be someone they can certainly learn from.”

While at Highland Community College, Schloo earned KJCCC Honorable Mention and District N Second Team Region 6 honors during the 2008 season. Statistically, Brelynn recorded 74 aces, 1,643 assists, 124 kills, 25 blocks, 487 digs, including ranking 14 th in the nation in assists with 1,025 in 2008.

Schloo, a 5'8” native of Salina, Kan., earned three varsity letters while in high school at Salina South. She is a two time AVCTL Division I honorable mention award winner (2006 and 2007) and in 2006 was named to the All-County honorable mention squad.

Brelynn is the daughter of Blane and Krista Schloo of Salina, Kan. She plans to major in biology while at McPherson College.


Janzen inks with Bulldog volleyball

McPherson, Kan. - McPherson College has announced the recent signing of Karis Janzen of Hillsboro, Kan., and Goessel High School to a volleyball letter of intent for the 2010-2011 school year.

"Karis is a quick and powerful player," said McPherson head volleyball coach Susan Barton. "She will bring a lot to our middle hitter position. She hits the ball hard and is also a tremendous blocker. She is not very big for a middle, but she can explode off the floor. I am really looking forward to working with Karis and to be a part of her growth as an athlete."

The 5'9” Janzen earned second team honors in 2A from Hutch News and was twice selected as a HOA league second teamer. She also part of the 2009 Tescott All-Tournament team and twice (2008, 2009) earned a spot on the Hutch News's area volleyball players honorable mention team.

Janzen, a four-year letter winner in volleyball, finished her career with 720 kills and 474 blocks in 326 games for Goessel High School.

Along with excelling on the court, Karis is a four-year member of the Deans Honor Roll at Goessel High School and twice received KVA academic honors.

Karis is the daughter of Marlin and Sheri Janzen of Hillsboro, Kan. She plans to major in elementary education at McPherson College
