Shawn Powell took over the head coaching duties for McPherson baseball in the spring of 2015 after serving as the assistant coach for the fall semester; he started his head coaching career with a 16-15 victory.

Powell re-joined the college coaching ranks with the Bulldogs in the fall of 2014.  Prior to coming to McPherson, he was employed in the private sector for eight years while also serving as an instructor at Smith Baseball Academy, an assistant coach at Hayden High School in Topeka, and as a head coach of the Kansas City Barnstormers summer team.

Powell spent five years coaching at the college level from 2001-2006.  He was an assistant at Butler Community College, Bethany College and Odessa College.
