Alex Moorehead enters his first season (2025–26) as the Head Women’s Basketball Coach at McPherson College, bringing over a decade of coaching experience across collegiate, high school, and international basketball.
Coaching Highlights
In the summer of 2025, Moorehead coached with PhD Hoops at the United World Games in Austria, helping lead Team USA to a No. 1 seed and a bronze medal finish after a competitive run through the tournament.
Prior to McPherson, Moorehead served as Head Women’s Basketball Coach in the Sun Conference (Florida) from 2021 to 2025. During that time, his teams produced 19 Sun Conference All-Academic Team selections and 8 All-Sun Conference honorees. His outstanding leadership earned him Sun Conference Coach of the Year, WBCA Region 6 Coach of the Year, and recognition as a WBCA National Coach of the Year finalist.
Before coaching at the collegiate level, Moorehead led the program at Deer Creek High School (2017–2021), where he developed 10 collegiate signees and had 4 players nominated for McDonald’s All-American honors. He also held coaching positions at California State University Maritime Academy (2016–2017) and Bishop McGuinness High School (2014–2016).
Playing Highlights
From 2012 to 2014, Moorehead played professionally overseas, competing in the National Basketball League with UPH in Indonesia (2012–2013) and in Ireland’s Super League with UCD Marian (2013–2014).
