Box Score Winfield, Kan. – The McPherson College women’s soccer team recorded their third straight shutout on Wednesday night as the Bulldogs blanked Southwestern College, 1-0.
McPherson is now 6-4-3 on the season with a 3-1-2 record in KCAC play, while Southwestern drops to 7-6-1 and 4-2 in conference play.
McPherson was in control offensively for a majority of the first half, outshooting the Moundbuilders, 16-4. McPherson took advantage of the scoring opportunities in the 14th minute as junior Haley Cook netted a pass from Ana Calderon. The goal is Cook’s first game winning goal and third goal of the season.
The Bulldogs continued their offensive attack in the second half, but were unable to add an insurance goal.
The McPherson defense posted one of their strongest matches of the season, holding Southwestern to six shots. Junior goalkeeper Andrea Swanson recorded two saves en route to her third straight shutout.
McPherson looks to continue the positive momentum against the University of Saint Mary on Saturday in McPherson. Action from McPherson Stadium kicks off at 5:30 p.m.
