Box Score McPherson, Kan. – Freshman forward Sam Tucker’s header in the sixth minute lifted the Bulldogs to a 1-0 victory over the University of Saint Mary Saturday night at McPherson Stadium.
The win improves the Bulldogs to 13-1 and 7-0 in KCAC play, while the Spires drop to 5-10 and 2-5 in the conference. The win extends McPherson’s winning streak to 10 games and places the Bulldogs two games above Kansas Wesleyan University for first place in the KCAC.
MC scored the only goal of the match in the opening minutes. Armando Rodriguez played a cross into the six-yard box, connecting with the head of the streaking Tucker for the 1-0 advantage.
The goal for Tucker was his fourth of the season and first career game winning goal. Rodriguez’s assist was his fifth of the season, placing him second in the KCAC with 33 points.
Blake Jett earned his third straight shutout and record tying seventh of the season. Jett was forced to make two saves in 90 minutes to earn the clean sheet.
McPherson held a 17-7 advantage in shots, including a commanding 9-3 lead in the first 45 minutes. McPherson ended the contest with seven shots on goal, while the Spires had two. McPherson attempted four corner kicks, while USM had three.
Armando Rodriguez led the offensive attack, attempting seven shots. Brent Mulford and Sam Tucker each finished the game with two shots.
The Bulldogs return to action Wednesday, Oct. 28, against Sterling College. Kickoff is set for 8:00 p.m. at McPherson Stadium.
