Bulldogs look to continue momentum at Sterling, Bethany
The McPherson College women’s soccer team looks to build on the success of Saturday’s win against Friends University as the Bulldogs hit the road for a pair of challenging KCAC matchups at Sterling and Bethany this week. MC’s midweek match against Sterling is scheduled to kickoff at 2:00 p.m., while Saturday’s game is slated for 1:30 p.m.
McPherson enters the week 2-1-1 in its previous four matches, including wins against Tabor College and Friends University. In their last match, MC’s Haley Cook notched her third goal of the season to propel McPherson to the 1-0 victory against the Falcons. The two sides ended the night tied with 10 shots (five shots on goal) apiece.
The Bulldogs currently rest in a tie for third place in the KCAC standings with Sterling and Friends. All three sides have a 2-2-1 record in the conference play.
Offensively, seniors Haley Cook and Amanda Aragon act as a two-headed monster for the Bulldogs. Cook currently leads the team with nine points on three goals and three assists, while Aragon ranks second with eight points (four goals). Sophomore forward Rachel Cornell and senior defender Ana Calderon are the next leading scorers for McPherson with six and five points respectively.
Defensively, sophomore goalkeeper Molly Whitwell ranks second in the conference with a 1.42 goals against average. She has registered 75 saves and a .806 save percentage in 13 starts.
Looking forward to next week, the Bulldogs host Southwestern College on Wednesday, before finishing the regular season on Saturday at Kansas Wesleyan University.

In MC’s midweek contest with Bethel, the Bulldogs tallied 21 shots, including nine shots on goal, but failed to notch the game winning goal in 110 minutes of action. Goalkeeper Molly Whitwell led the Bulldog defense with three saves.
On Saturday, senior forward Haley Cook registered her third goal of the season in the 13th minute to give the Bulldogs the early 1-0 advantage. Cook’s goal would become the eventual game winner as neither side proved able to score again.
