Bluejays outlast Bulldogs in men’s tennis, 5-4

McPherson, Kan. – For the second straight match, the McPherson College men’s tennis team dropped a tough 5-4 decision after being defeated by Tabor College Thursday night. Playing in their first home match since March 26, the Bulldogs split the singles matches with the Bluejays, but were unable to capture the doubles points. The loss drops the Bulldogs to 3-3 and 1-2 in conference play.

The pairing of Igor Guasit and Ronaldo Filho collected the only doubles victory for McPherson when they took down David Simmet and Cory Simms at the No. 1 position, 8-1. Vyacheslav Bukatin and Jordan Rothrock fell to Andy Adrian and Jeremy Reiswig at the No. 2 doubles spot, while Nathan Clary and Kyle Toland were defeated by Kyle Kroeker and Clay Shewey at No. 3.

In singles, Bukatin and Filho led the Bulldogs as both opened singles play with victories to give MC a 3-2 advantage. Bukatin defeated David Simmet at the No. 1 position in decisive fashion, 6-3, 6-0, while Filho knocked off Gabriel Valle, 6-4, 6-3.

After dropping the No. 3, 5 and 6 spots, Guasti was able to break his three match losing streak with a 6-4, 7-6 win over Kyle Kroeker.

The Bulldogs return to the court on Saturday, April 17, when they play host to Sterling College. First sever is set for 9:00 a.m.
