McPherson, Kan. – The McPherson College men’s tennis team snapped a two match losing streak, while the women won their first match of the season, as the Bulldogs defeated the visiting Sterling College Warriors, 9-0, 9-0 Saturday morning at the Doris Coppock Tennis Courts.
With the win, the Bulldog men improve to 4-3 and 2-2 KCAC, while the women go to 1-6 and 1-3 in conference action.
Senior Ashley Andrews dominated at the No. 1 singles position, defeating Sterling’s Danielle Burke, 6-1, 6-3. Andrews match was the lone women’s match of the morning, as Sterling had to default on all other competitions giving MC its first win of the season.
On the men’s side, McPherson opened the morning with a sweep of the doubles matches. The MC No. 1 pairing of Igor Guasti and Ronaldo Filho defeated Mike Jaderstand and Jordan Stineman, 8-4, while Vyacheslave Bukatin and Jordan Rothrock won, 8-1, against Daren Casey and Josiah Fuscher at the No. 2 spot. The team of Nathan Clary and Kyle Toland failed to surrender a game in their 8-0 win over Dario Villartoro and Matt Hastings.
McPherson’s momentum from the doubles matches carried over into singles. No. 1 Bukatin continued his dominance of KCAC opponents with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Mike Jaderstand. Bukatin is a perfect 4-0 in conference singles matches this season.
The Bulldogs continued on the sweep the singles matches to earn the 9-0 victory.
MC will return to action Monday, April 19, as the Bulldogs travel to Winfield, Kan. to take on the Southwestern College Moundbuilders. First serve is set to begin at 3:00 p.m.
